and it is so exciting to start realising my dream of putting my theories about failure and rejection out there in the world. I never believed I would have these kinds of opportunities, certainly not just two years ago when I was on the dole and wondering how to get out of the hell that was my daily life.
Cut to now and I am grateful every day for having a roof over my head and for having the gift of perspective- something you can only achieve when time and distance permit.
On that note, I wanted to share a little story about perspective with you. My daughter is confident in so many ways that I am not, never really questioning her talents or ability to do, well, anything. I love her for it. She is my inspiration and all my life goals wrapped up in one human.
Well, the other day, I asked her if she wanted to start going to Gymnastics class as she had mentioned she wanted to learn how to do cartwheels and backflips etc. She turned to me, confident as Kanye and quipped, ‘I don’t need to mum, I can already do it all’, so I replied, ‘what everything?’, ‘Yup!’ she grinned back at me, ‘Ok, so you’re telling me you can already do a cartwheel AND a backflip?’ ‘Uhuh!’ She replied and I was a little bit confused here as I sure as hell never taught her how to do either, over-protective mother that I am! And then she turned to me and said, ‘Look mummy!’ and this happened:
She did a forward roll.
‘Look mum, I done a cartwheel!’
She did yet another forward roll. Pretty much the same as the first.
‘And a backflip!’
My mouth dropped open.
‘See! Told you, I can do all the gymnastics mummy!’ She replied.
Then she walked out the room like it was her catwalk. In her mind her forward rolls were backflips and cartwheels and she was a winner. Wow. What lessons we can all take from that!
I stifled a laugh and thought to myself how wonderful it would be to be even a quarter as confident as this tiny little human. #perspective.
